The Heroes of the Ft. Hood Massacre

by Scott on November 9, 2009

Regardless if you think the Ft Hood Massacre was a terrorist attack, Major Nidal Malik Hasan was clearly an active killer.

Sgt Kimberly Munley and Sgt Mark Todd of the Fort Hood Police Department did an outstanding job engaging and taking Hasan down. Recent reports indicate that both officers shot Hasan. However, in my mind it’s not important which one killed him, the most important thing is that officers engaged the active killer and stopped him from killing more.

Eventually the investigation will reveal more details and lessons for us to learn.

The most detailed reports I have seen so far about this incident come from Great Britain: (hat tip to Beat and Release)
Breakdown of the shooter’s actions before and during the massacre
Report on Sgt Kim Munley’s actions and wounds

Police One as usual is doing a great job keeping officers informed and has ongoing updates of the incident.

Update: Interview with Sgt Mark Todd about shooting Hasan. Click here if you can’t see the video.
