In my post “Spartan Cops debuts Video Articles“, I demonstrated how to improve the basic straight arm bar takedown by using the blade of your arm. Not only will this allow you to accelerate your opponent’s shoulder towards the ground, but it will allow you to seamlessly transition to another effective technique should the suspect attempt to prevent you from taking him down.
In this first video, I will show you how a suspect can easily prevent you from taking him down with a straight arm bar.

In this video, I will cover my favorite technique for taking a suspect to the ground when they attempt to curl their arm. By using the blade of your arm to do a straight arm bar take down, you can quickly transition into the Figure Four Throw if the suspect bends his arm. The key to staying ahead of your opponent’s OODA Loop cycle during a struggle is to be able to anticipate his actions. If you can limit his options for resisting and have a plan ready for dealing with the most likely actions he might try, you can quickly gain the upper hand during the engagement.
I will also demonstrate how to effectively pin the suspect to the ground once you have taken him down. This technique is extremely effective and allows you to remain standing, while your opponent is pinned on the ground.

A future video will show you how to quickly turn the suspect onto his stomach for tactical handcuffing.
