Editor’s Note: This is a guest post from Sgt. Steve Odom. Steve’s bio is at the end of this article.

This is the second in a three part series. Also check out Shot Show 2010 Part 1: Patrol Rifles and Shot Show 2010 Part 3: Slings and Range Equipment.

Duty Handguns

I was excited to see my two favorite duty pistols had some brand new offerings. I am a big fan of striker fired weapons and the Glock and Springfield XD are my top choice.

Glock Gen 4

glockgen4 300x214 Shot Show 2010 Part 2: Duty Handguns and RevolversThe new Gen 4 Glock looks like a great duty weapon. The newest generation has interchangeable backstraps for different size hands, a reversible large magazine release, and a new rough textured frame. The new Glock also features a dual recoil spring assembly. I got to handle the Gen 4 Glock 17. The Gen 4 did not disappoint. I liked the new rough textured frame and overall feel of the weapon. I can’t wait to try this weapon on the range. If you are a Glock fan I think you will love the new Glock line.

Springfield XD (M) .45 ACP

Springfield announced they will be releasing an XD (M) in .45 acp. I am very excited about this weapon. I carry a XD 5 inch Tactical in .45 acp and have been looking forward to the match version. The (M) version feature a match grade barrel, shorter trigger reset, and a more textured grip. Springfield did not have the new XD(M) and had very little information about it . They could not even advise the capacity of the weapon. The brochure for 2010 announces the release but does not even have a photograph of the pistol. I have no doubt this weapon will be worth the wait.

Revolvers

Ultra-Light Judge

thejudge 300x214 Shot Show 2010 Part 2: Duty Handguns and RevolversOnly one revolver caught my attention at the show. It was the Ultra Light Judge by Taurus. The new Judge looks similar to the Raging Bull Utra-light. It has heavy slab side barrel, gloss black and is chambered in .410 or .45 Colt. This revolver is a sight to behold. It would make a great off duty weapon for certain purposes. I would like to have a Judge for back packing trips, home defense, as a car gun, or for some fun range time. Just brandishing this hog leg would jack up your advisories OODA Loop. The fit and finish were excellent and the overall look is much better than the older models I have seen. The Judge revolvers have been around since about 2006 and are very popular. Taurus seems to have the weapon just about perfect at this time. The Judge would be a good choice for close range personal defense handgun. www.TaurusUSA.com (not legal in California due to short barrel shotgun laws)

I noticed on Springfields website yesterday that they have much more information on the XD(M) line. http://www.springfield-armory.com
