Maurice Clemmons, the Lakewood Officers Killer, is dead today because of the actions of a true warrior, Seattle Police Officer Benjamin Kelly.
Confronting the most brutal cop killer in America by yourself is an awesome challenge for anyone.
Officer Kelly was obviously prepared. According to Seattle PDs statement, he was working on paperwork concerning a recovered stolen vehicle. He maintained his awareness, noticing movement behind his squad car, and quickly exited to investigate. He recognized Maurice Clemmons and shot him before Clemmons could use the slain Lakewood officer’s weapon that he had with him.
Many officers imagine extreme scenarios like this one to motivate and prepare themselves for any actual tests they may encounter on the street. Officer Kelly’s performance during his test marks him as a warrior of the highest caliber.

Great addition to a bad story…thanks for posting guys. All cops must absorb the lessons here develop superior situational awareness ala John Boyds OODA LOOP, and prepare to prevent this type of thing from happening again… Too many cops killed this year in multiple slayings. Too many cops killed period. When will we open our eyes, ears, utilize our gut our intuition o recognize the signs and signals. Officer Ben Kelly did and put a decisive end to a bad situation!!!
Good work! The fact that this armed individual, who had already brutally murdered four police officers, was approaching another police officer, indicates to me that he was intent on another kill! With 34 years of police experience, I am happy to say that Police Officer Kelly did an OUTSTANDING job. His performance and fortitude are an example to police officers everywhere! Congratulations Police Officer Kelly!
Great Job!
