Web resource for police: Xiphos

by Scott on January 16, 2009

Xiphos (pronounced zee-phose) is a free, biweekly summary of recent court decisions relevant to police officers and administrators.  It is published by Ken Wallentine, currently the Chief of Law Enforcement for the Utah Attorney General.  He is a former street cop and K9 officer.

To subscribe for free, send a message to Xiphos-subscribe@KenWallentine.com.  He will send you a response email to verify that you want the service and you are not some robot spammer.  I was just able to hit the reply button and send an empty email to confirm.  If that doesn’t work, he gives an email address you can send an empty email to.

I found the emails useful and many of them are about use of force issues, especially TASER cases.  Each email newsletter has a few recent and relevant court cases and don’t have any spam or ads.

At his main website www.KenWallentine.com, Ken also has several books that he published,  Street Legal: A Guide to Pre-trial Criminal Procedure for Police, Prosecutors, and Defenders (Criminal Justice Section) Web resource for police: Xiphos and K9 Officer’s Legal Handbook.

Xiphos will be added to our police links page, which contains the list of websites we think are useful resources to street officers, specialized units, or police administrators.
